Free online music whiteboard
Like MS Paint for music: an online music board where every note you draw plays at the right pitch.
Solfaboard is a free music staff whiteboard, a kind of online music paint, made as a music theory whiteboard for teachers and students. Draw music notes online on free staff paper, add clefs, key signatures and accidentals, and hear each note as you place it. Put it on the classroom screen or use it at home to practise reading notes.
Draw music notes online, and hear them
- Notes that sound right. They snap to the staff and play in treble, bass or alto clef, with key signatures, sharps, flats and naturals.
- Note names on demand. Show names under every note in solfège (Do Re Mi) or letters (C D E), or tap single notes with the naming wand.
- Ready-made staves. One click inserts a treble, bass, alto or piano grand staff; then add time signatures and bar lines.
- Play and share. Play the staff from left to right, write titles in capitals, zoom in for the back row, and download the board as a PNG.
- Live MIDI keyboard. Plug in a MIDI keyboard and open the live keyboard: every key you press lights up with its name.
Quick start
- Open Templates and pick a staff (or click Staff and click on the board).
- Choose a note and click on the staff. Drag it up or down to change the pitch.
- Turn on Names, or press Play. Hover any button to see what it does.
Free, nothing to install, no account. It works in any modern browser on computers and tablets.
Questions
Is Solfaboard free?
Yes. It is free, with no account and nothing to install. It may show one ad below the board, never on top of it.
Does it work on an iPad or tablet?
Yes, in Safari or Chrome. Draw with a finger or a pen, pinch with two fingers to zoom and drag with two fingers to scroll.
Can I use a MIDI keyboard?
Yes. Open the live MIDI keyboard page in Chrome, Edge, Opera or Firefox on a computer; every key you play lights up with its name. Safari does not support MIDI yet.
Do the notes make a sound?
Yes. Each note plays when you place or move it, at its real pitch, taking the clef, key signature and accidentals into account. The Play button plays the staves from left to right, and the sound can be switched off.
Is my work saved?
Yes, automatically, in your own browser on this device. Nothing is sent to us. Use Download PNG to keep a copy or share it.
